Admission procedure for Undergraduate courses

Eligibility

For admission to any of the Regional Engineering Colleges, candidate need to apply only to the Regional Engineering College assigned for the state or Union Territory in which the school or college from which he/she has passed the qualifying examination, is located. He/she is eligible for admission to R.E.C Durgapur ,subject to the following conditions:

  1. He/she will not be more than 23 years old as on August 1st of the same year (26 years for scheduled caste /tribe candidate, foreign student, ward of India-based staff posted abroad).
  2. He will have passed the 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent, with Physics ,Chemistry, Mathematics and English.
  3. For candidate from West Bengal, he/she will have to qualify in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the West Bengal Board of Examination for admission to Engineering Medical and Technological Degree Colleges.
  4. For a candidate from a state or a union territory other than West Bengal , he/she will have been selected by the Regional Engineering College assigned for the state or union territory in accordance with its admission procedure and criterion to Regional Engineering College ,Durgapur.

Application

Application forms for the admission to REC , Durgapur and other 16 RECs, located n different part of India, are distributed only among the candidates enlisted in the merit list of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The forms will be available from respective Engineering and Technological College in West Bengal other than Jadhavpur University on payment of requisite fees in cash and production of ORIGINAL JEE Admit card. The central selection committee will receive the filled up forms.

Selection

Successful candidates from West Bengal will have to appear before a central selection committee on a specified date, time and venue which will be notified at R.E.C , Durgapur and Bengal Engineering College (Deemed University), Shibpur.

The R.E.C assigned to the state or union territory will select candidates from other states or union territories other than Andaman & Nicobar Islands on the basis of merit in accordance with their admission procedure and criterion.

Foreign Students

The candidates must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics ,Chemistry ,Mathematics and English. Application should be routed through the respective embassy to the following address:

In general, 5 seats are available for foreign students in each branch of engineering. Accommodation is provided to all the students in hostel. a new 120 seat hostel is coming up shortly exclusively for the foreign students.

 

Admission Procedure for Postgraduate courses

Eligibility

  1. For Engineering Discipline: B.E. or B.Tech. in Engg./Tecnology in respective branch of Engg or AMIE(I), AMIIM, AMIIChE by examination having two year of professional experience.
  2. Chemistry, Corrosion Science, & Technology: M.Sc. in Chemistry (Pure/Applied), B.E. or B.Tech. in ChE.
  3. Mathematics( Operation Research in Industry/Business Management)[Self-finance or Part-time evening]: B.E./B.Tech. in Engg./Technology, or M.Sc.( with Mathematics at graduate level), AMIE, AMIM, AMIIChE with two years of professional experience.

For full-time courses, candidates will have to qualify GATE, conducted by IITs. They shall have to appear for interview/viva-voce for final selection. Unemployed Non-GATE candidates may be considered for admission to the full-time courses subject to the availability of seats but they will not be entitled to scholarship. Non-GATE candidates for full-time courses will be selected through college admission test (written/interview).

Candidates working in industries and business organisations around Durgapur (within the radius of 20 KMs from the college) fulfilling the above qualifications may also apply for part-time courses. No-objection certificate from their employer will be essential for admission.

Application

Application form is available from the Co-ordinator, Post Graduate course on payment of cash at the college cash counter or by post. The data and time of receipt of form is intimated through an advertisement in the newspaper.
